Turkey cancels import duties for Russia-made sunflower oil

MOSCOW, May 11 (PRIME) -- Turkish importers of Russian sunflower oil have received an official confirmation that duties for the product were abolished, the Russian Union of Oils and Fats CEO Mikhail Maltsev told PRIME on Thursday.

“We talked to our Turkish colleagues 15 minutes ago to hear that they received an official confirmation that Russia had been removed from the list of countries for which the sunflower oil import duty is applied,” he said.

The duty was imposed in March following controversies between Russia and Turkey.

Earlier in May, President Vladimir Putin said after negotiations with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan that the countries agreed to abolish all mutual trade restrictions, except on imports of tomatoes and a visa-free regime. Turkish Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci said his country lifted restrictions on Russian wheat imports.
